Awakened Academy®
Founded by Michael Mackintosh and co-founded with Arielle Hecht in 2014. Fourteen years of original curriculum refined specifically for the spiritual coaching path, with Dharma as one of seven core pillars (not the sole focus).
What graduates point to: Soul Purpose methodology, Sacred Business Academy built in, and the working business stack (done-for-you website, marketing funnels, coaching scripts, agreement templates, meditation library). 1-on-1 access to Michael plus twice-monthly live calls with the founders.
Accreditation: AADP, CMA, and IMMA externally; proprietary AA Certified seal; ICF Continuing Coach Education (CCE) coming 2026. Multi-accreditation matters most for graduates who plan to work alongside wellness or holistic practitioners.
Dharma Coaching Institute
Dharma Coaching Institute is a more recent program with a narrow focus on Dharma coaching specifically. The proprietary credential and Dharma-only positioning are the clearest differentiators.
For coaches who specifically want a Dharma-focused training and credential, DCI is purpose-built for that. The trade-off is breadth: less coverage of the broader integrative dimensions (financial, environmental, somatic) that Awakened Academy includes by design.
Business support is lighter than what Awakened Academy bundles. Coaches building a private practice from scratch will likely need to assemble the website, funnels, and templates separately.
Which should you choose?
The honest answer
If Dharma is your sole focus and you want a niche-only credential, DCI fits that brief. For most spiritually-called coaches, Dharma is one strand in a wider integrative practice, and the breadth of Awakened Academy's curriculum plus the multi-accreditation plus the built-in business stack adds up to a more practical path to a working practice.
The biggest single predictor of whether a certified coach earns a living is whether their training included real business systems. A credential without clients is a certificate on a wall.

Does Awakened Academy actually cover Dharma?
Yes. Dharma and Soul Purpose are a dedicated pillar in the curriculum, integrated with the broader spiritual-and-business training. AA graduates can position as Dharma coaches if they choose, with the full integrative training behind them.
Is DCI ICF accredited?
No, Dharma Coaching Institute uses a proprietary credential. AA also currently uses a proprietary seal but holds CMA, AADP, and IMMA externally and has ICF Continuing Coach Education (CCE) accreditation in approval, coming 2026.
Is AA broader than DCI worth the trade-off if I'm sure I want to do Dharma work?
Generally yes. Dharma practitioners almost always end up working with clients whose wider lives (work, money, relationships, body) need integrated attention. AA's broader curriculum prepares you for that without sacrificing the Dharma focus.
Do I need ICF accreditation to be a Dharma coach?
